Spartan Bands

Band director Gary Franks leading a band practice outdoors

The Webberville Instrumental Music program is under the direction of Gary Franks.  Students begin studying instrumental music in sixth grade.  During seventh and eighth grade, instrumental music students serve as members of the Intermediate Concert Band.  These students perform in parades, concerts, and they participate in MSBOA concert band festival in the spring.  Students in ninth through twelfth grade serve as members of the Senior Concert Band.  High school students are responsible for performing in parades and at football games, presenting concerts, performing and marching band and concert band festival, and providing music for special events like commencement and the Webberville Memorial Day Celebration.

Our mission is to foster the musical growth of young people in the areas of rhythm, melody, harmony, form and timbre so they are adequately prepared to achieve musical independence. Furthermore, enrollment in the Webberville bands will develop the less obvious qualities of being a good musician such as self-discipline, organization, promptness and respect for oneself and others.
