Superintendent Selection

At a special meeting held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, the Webberville Community Schools Board of Education voted to name Mr. Andrew Smith as the next Superintendent of Webberville Community Schools.  This placement is contingent upon successful contract negotiations.

Amy Coe, Board of Education President shared, “We had two qualified candidates, and both brought forward knowledge, skills and qualities that would serve them well in this position.  The Board of Education looks forward to working with Mr. Andrew Smith to work towards the mission of the district, which is to provide a progressive, personalized education in a safe and caring environment by a dedicated vision-driven staff.”

The Board of Education’s negotiations committee will work to develop a mutually acceptable contract for Mr. Andrew Smith to be finalized at its June 14, 2021, meeting.

During the Board of Education's regular meeting being held in the High School Cafeteria on Monday, May 17, 2021, interviews of the two internal Superintendent candidates will be conducted.  These will take place after the regular business has been completed.  The interviews are anticipated to begin at approximately 6:30pm.  Each interview will last a duration of 45 minutes - 1 hour.

Order of Interviews:

Steve Vowles, Webberville High School/Middle School Principal

Andrew Smith, Webberville Principal/Athletic Director

During these interviews, the Board of Education and a representative from each building will ask questions of the candidates to learn more about their skills and experiences and how they relate to this position.  After the interviews are completed, the Board will adjourn the meeting to allow Board members time to reflect on the candidates' qualifications and skills, and how they align with the needs of the district as identified by the Board, community, and district employees.

The Board will reconvene on Tuesday, May, 18, 2021, at 6:30pm to hear public comments regarding the candidate interviews that were held the previous day and to deliberate and come to a decision regarding the position.

The Webberville Board of Education would like to thank everyone who participated in the Superintendent Search Survey.  The Board is actively reviewing the responses to ensure the community's and school employees' thoughts are taken into consideration as potential candidates are evaluated.

The internal posting has closed and brought forward two potential Superintendent candidates.  The Personnel Committee, consisting of Amy Coe, Daneille Rhodes, and Heather Stiffler, met with the two candidates on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 to have an initial discussion pertaining to their interest in the position.

The Board of Education will participate in a training exercise on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 with a representative of the Michigan Association of School Boards in preparation for candidate interviews.  On Wednesday, May 12, 2021, the Personnel Committee will determine the interview format for the two internal candidates, which will be held prior to Wednesday, May 19, 2021.  Upon completion of these interviews, it will be determined if these individuals are brought forward for a public interview with the Board of Education or if an external posting will occur.

An update will be provided regarding the next steps in the process on Thursday, May 13, 2021.

Mr. Brian Friddle shared with the Webberville Community Schools Board of Education that he will be resigning as Superintendent effective June 30, 2021.   We will miss Mr. Friddle and wish him the best in the next chapter of his career.  We thank Mr. Friddle for his many years of dedication and service to the District.   The Board's goal is to have the new Superintendent selected and starting by July 1, 2021.

We have begun the search for the next Superintendent.  As we move forward in the search process, the Board of Education would like to receive input from parents/guardians and staff members.  Between Covid restrictions and a short timeline, the Board will seek this input via a survey.  We encourage you to provide us with your feedback regarding your beliefs as to what the Board should consider when selecting the next Superintendent.

The survey will remain open through 11:59 PM on Monday, April 26, 2021.  The link for the survey can be found below.  The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
