Dr.
James P. LaBerge Athletic Scholarship Award

I. Qualifications: The LaBerge Athletic Scholarship Award recognizes a male and female senior athlete who has demonstrated strong character, leadership, sportsmanship and athleticism. An eligible student/athlete, in addition to meeting the following minimum qualifications, must have played at least two varsity sports their senior year. They must not have quit a varsity sport during their junior or senior year.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Character: The student/athlete must be considered a positive role model by the faculty and coaches. They cannot have any suspensions or detentions during their junior and senior years. They must be considered people of integrity and have demonstrated humility in their success.

Leadership: The student/athlete has served honorably
as a captain of a varsity team and/or has demonstrated leadership by their positive
behavior on and off the playing field.
Leadership includes doing the right things by obeying school rules and
policies at all times. Leadership is
demonstrated by not violating any of the Webberville Athletic Handbook’s code
of conduct while a varsity athlete during their junior and senior years. The student/athlete has not been ineligible
due to academic or behavior deficiencies during their junior or senior
years.

Sportsmanship: The student/athlete must have consistently
demonstrated strong sportsmanship as a varsity athlete during their junior and
senior year. They cannot have any unsportsmanlike
penalties during their junior and senior years of competition. They must be viewed as role models as
athletes on the field of play.

Athleticism: The student/athlete has received post season
honors in at least one varsity sport their senior year. These honors include All-Conference,
All-Area, All-State, Team MVP, or other post season recognitions that
demonstrate excellence in their sport.
II. Selection: The selection committee will consist of the Athletic Director as chair and at least one varsity coach from each sports season representing both male and female sports. There shall be a minimum of five coaches on the committee. The selection of an awardee shall be by a majority vote of the selection committee. If there is a tie vote, the high school principal will cast the tie breaking vote. The high school principal will not vote unless it is to break a tie. However, the high school principal will be in attendance or his/her assistant principal to give input on issues related to character and leadership at school. The Dr. James P. LaBerge Athletic Scholarship Award will be presented at the Awards Banquet in May of each year.
Student/athletes
do not apply for this award. All
eligible students, based on the above criteria, will be considered for this
award.
