WHS Band Trip was Wicked
Marie Wilson
Okay some explanation is necessary. As a part of the year-end celebration, the Webberville High School (WHS) Band and supporting parents went to Chicago April 30 th through May 2nd. The guided tour took students and parents from Webberville to downtown Chicago the Magnificent Mile, Michigan Avenue and the Water Tower Place. Here the students and parents had time to shop and explore downtown Chicago.
Later in the afternoon, the tour bus took the students and parents to the Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre to watch the play Wicked.Wicked tells the story of Oz before Dorothy and Toto arrive. The musical was lively, comical and entertaining. After watching the musical the WHS Band and parents took in the sights of Hard Rock Café while enjoying a delightful meal. To round out the evening, the WHS group went to The Hancock Observatory – 94 floors above Chicago – what a spectacular sight!
The next day the WHS group was entertained by the dolphins, sea otters, manitus and an array of fish at the Shedds Aquarium. But alas, the high school band had an appointment with the band director of Northwestern University. For two hours the NU band director worked with the band to help them improve their concert performances. While the students were at Northwestern, the parents explored downtown Chicago - again.
The trip concluded with a treat at Connie’s Pizza – Chicago style pizza! The trip went well. The citizens of Webberville should be proud of the high school band students because they represented Webberville by respecting the chaperones, Chicagoans and the tour guide. Way to go students! And thank-you band boosters, for supporting the WHS band by raising money so the students could enjoy the trip to Chicago.
