The History of Webberville - Oak Lane Golf Course

Oak Lane Golf Course is located at the end of North Main Street in Webberville. It started out as a 9 hole course, but has expanded to 18 holes. There is a clubhouse, which has a good restaurant, which serves great hotdogs. They also have an equipment shop that sells golf things.

The people of Webberville became interested in a golf course, so Mr. Bernard Simons purchased the land. The property had belonged to Mr. Costa. Approximately 30 full and part time people are employed.

A membership fee costs around $300.00. They also have several leagues that play each week. Many people from Webberville enjoy playing the course as well as other people from around Michigan.

Arlene Webster loved to golf. She was a janitor and bus driver for Webberville Schools. A memorial tree was planted at the number 12 hole in memory of the good times that she enjoyed playing the course. Another person who enjoys golfing there is Ms. Chapman who is Webberville’s reading teacher. She hit a hole in one at the number 7 hole. Mrs. Slater who teaches 5th grade was playing with Ms Chapman.

My grandfather’s farm is next to the golf course. During the summer, I hunt for golf balls that land on his property. Then I sell them to the golfers. One time a man said that he’d pay me a quarter if I’d let him go out into our field and get his ball. Then he said, "I’ll pay you a dollar, if you’ll go and get my ball". I went and got the ball for him.

My Uncle Don worked on the golf course. He planted the grass and cleaned up the rocks.
