The History of Webberville - Lloyd's Barbershop

Lloyd Harr has been a barber in Webberville for over 30 years. He has his business on Main Street and is self-employed. The people in Webberville refer to him as "Lloyd the Barber."

When Mr. Harr told his wife that he had purchased a barbershop in Webberville, she asked, "Where is Webberville?" That is when the Harr family moved from Holt, Michigan to Webberville.

When Lloyd was a little boy, his grandfather and father were the ones in the family to give haircuts. This was interesting to him and therefore he knew one day that was what he wanted to do. After he graduated from high school, he decided to attend barber school.

People from all over the state come to get their hair cut at his shop. The farthest person came from Weidman. Weidman is on the other side of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. It is not very often that you drive by and see the barbershop empty.

A few years ago a story appeared in a magazine titled "Country Extra". The article told about Lloyd trusting people. The article told how a customer had gone to the shop for a haircut and Lloyd was on the phone talking to the local dentist. The shop had three customers waiting for their turn. Apparently Lloyd had a tooth problem and wanted to get it taken care of before going on vacation the following week. The telephone conversation ended with Lloyd saying, "Okay, I’ll be right over." He turned to the customers and said, "Boys, I’ll be back in 15-20 minutes." He went out the back door, leaving the place open, money in the cash register and the customers still visiting. Later when he returned, he explained that he had to have the dentist pull a bad tooth.

Lloyd was gone almost an hour, rather than the 20 minutes he had promised his customers. When he returned, they were still there discussing and solving the problems of the world.

"Lloyd the Barber" loves meeting people and talking with them. However, most of all he loves his fishing and hunting. He shares the stories of these experiences with his customers.
