Webberville Celebrates Completed Bond Projects
January 2005
January 24 th was a memorable occasion for Webberville Community Schools as they officially dedicated the completed 2002 bond projects. About 150 community members, staff, administrators, and students joined the board of education at the dedication and open house. Following a short board meeting and dedication ceremony, those in attendance were invited to tour the secondary building to see first hand the improvements to the building. The bond projects included a new secondary media center, a science lab, a weight training facility, computer labs, industrial arts and CAD facility, multimedia rooms, agriscience rooms, a new ceiling in the cafeteria and new technology infrastructure for the entire district.
Following the tour in the secondary building, the meeting moved to the elementary school which was celebrating the completion of their new multi-purpose room and computer lab. The multi-purpose room addition will be utilized in several ways. It will serve as a lunchroom for the elementary, an additional gym space, an elementary theatre, and will provide additional practice space for athletic teams. In addition to the school functions, the multipurpose room will be a welcome addition to the community in that it will provide space for community recreation programs.
As the 2002 bond projects were officially declared “finished” the board of education and the community now turns their attention to the future. Spring will bring the groundbreaking ceremony for the Webberville Community Athletic/Recreation Center which will be added to the existing high school. The facility will provide gym space, indoor tennis courts, a community health center, classrooms, a fitness center, and family locker rooms. In addition to the recreation facility, work is set to begin on the new bleacher system for the track and future football field. The barn and greenhouse for the Ingham County regional agriculture program will be constructed soon. The district will continue to focus on the future with a proposed 2006 bond vote that will include a proposal to renovate areas of the elementary and secondary schools, expand technology space at the secondary school, construct a 650 seat auditorium at the high school, and renovate the athletic fields and facilities.
The board of education would like to thank the community for their continued support of the district’s vision of becoming a premier school system that will set the new standard of excellence.
