Webberville Musical Instrument Drive and Fundraiser Moves Forward

The musical instrument drive and fundraiser sponsored by the Webberville Fine Arts Council is meeting with success in the community and the surrounding areas.

One of the Webberville Fine Arts Council Partners, Cliff Hart of Allstate Insurance-Williamston, dropped off a check for $1,000, which signifies the first installment of a three year - $1000 per year commitment to the fine arts in Webberville. In addition to the financial donation, Hart dropped off a trumpet that was donated by Beverly O’Malia of Carriage Travel in Williamston.

The Williamston Sunrise Rotary, of which Hart has been a member for four years and is the President-Elect, has committed $3,000 to the musical instrument drive and fundraiser that is currently being held for the school district. The Rotary is a group of business professionals and/or business owners within the Williamston and Webberville area that are committed to community service. Started in 1905, the Rotary is one of the largest service organizations in the world.

In addition to the Williamston Sunrise Rotary, the Williamston Area Beautification Fund has donated $1,000 to the fundraiser. Howard Dahlstrom, who is a member of the Beautification Fund and is a Webberville Fine Arts Council Partner, made the donation to the district.

The Williamston Area Beautification Fund was established to increase the fine arts and educational opportunities in the Williamston/Webberville area. Hart commented, “The members of the fund saw the Webberville musical instrument drive and fundraiser as a perfect opportunity to reach out to the Webberville area and promote the fine arts.”

Hart, regarding his own experience with the fine arts noted, “I wasn’t personally involved in the arts in high school, just athletics, and as a result, I feel my education wasn’t well rounded. I would like to see opportunities for kids to be involved in the arts, an experience that will open doors for them in the future. If students have the chance to be exposed to the fine arts, just think what a difference it can make in the lives of these kids.”

The Webberville Fine Arts Council’s musical instrument drive will continue through the month of May. The fundraiser will be on-going in an effort to raise $52,000 to refurbish used instruments and buy needed instruments. To date, the fundraiser has collected $7,500.
