Webberville Elementary Construction on Track

The construction at Webberville Elementary School continues to be on track as the new multi-purpose room has taken shape. If you have been by the elementary school lately, you will notice the new two story brick addition on the back of the school.

The construction at the elementary school, as a result of the bond vote in 2002, began in April of this year. The multi-purpose room will be a welcome addition to the elementary school. It will provide a new gym area for the district. The new area will also provide space for a portable stage area to be utilized for special events. The biggest change for the elementary will be the addition of a warming kitchen in the new multi-purpose room. The warming kitchen facility will allow the elementary students to stay in their building for lunch instead of having to walk to the secondary building which has been the practice for a long time in Webberville. “The students are looking forward to the new facility” commented Principal Suzi Slater. “What a great idea to have a facility that will serve a multitude of our needs like a gym space, an area for performances, and especially the ability to have lunch in our own building.”

The construction crews have recently completed the roof with shingling to be completed soon. The masonry and structural steel has been completed with the block filling, mechanical, and electrical rough-in to be completed in the near future. The goal is to have the new multi-purpose room completed by the time the students return from Christmas break.

In addition to the multi-purpose room, work has begun on the new playground. They have started the site work on both the elementary playground and the new pre-school playground. Mrs. Slater commented “Students started the school year with no playground due to the construction, but everyone, students and teachers, have been very adaptable to conducting recess on the softball fields next to the elementary.” The district is looking forward to the playground being completed sometime in November.
