CURRICULUM COUNCIL Minutes from February 17, 2005

 

 

Members Present: Suzi Slater, Dana Perry, Beth Parnell, Charles Harper, Eileen Slider, Janet Reifenberg, Brian Friddle, and Maureen Monroe.

 

The minutes from the previous meeting were approved.

 

Visual Arts:

This was tabled until proper procedures are followed. This will need to go through the department.

 

Curriculum/Program Adoption

The process for curriculum/program adoption was discussed.

 

Early Childhood Developmental Delay (handout)
Pre-kindergarten mandated to have three students – cost $10,000 each. Williamston and Haslett will not take any more students.
Community based program.
Gives us the control – Prepare students for our own school.
Housed in the Elementary School.
Early Childhood and Special Education endorsement.
Add staff member to this position.
Money is available for this.
Discussion of Department of Education new rules and guidelines.

 

Developmental Kindergarten (handout)
Give students who may not be ready for kindergarten a start.
May attract School of Choice.
Give them a gift of time.
Discussion on full-time kindergarten – check out last year – not cost affective.
Promotes district.

 

Alternative Education
Meet student’s needs.
Increase regular education curriculum to excel.
7-12 grades.
Lack of engagement of students.
Multiple ways of putting students in program.
Earn your way out.
Build your program – work placement
