Regular Meeting Minutes

August 15, 2005

 

This Regular Meeting of the Webberville Board of Education was called to order by Board President Simmons in the Webberville Secondary School library on Monday, August 15, 2005 , at 7:03p.m.

 

Present: Clifford H. Simmons II, Patricia Shanabrook, Teri Chamberlain, Kristine Brenner, Kathe Westbrook, Caron Guidroz, and Matt Kulaga.

 

Also Present: Dr. Bill Skilling, Barbara Weathers

 

 

Approval of Agenda:

Ms. Shanabrook moved, Ms. Guidroz seconded a motion to approve the Agenda of the Regular Board of Education Meeting being held Monday, August 15, 2005 , as presented. Motion passed 7-0.

 

 

Approval of Consent Agenda:

Ms. Chamberlain moved, Ms. Shanabrook seconded a motion to adopt the Consent Agenda as presented. Motion passed 7-0.

 

 

Presentations:

New employees were introduced to the Board of Education. New employees included:

Bruce Mann, Asst. Principal/AD, Andrew Mason, Technology Director, Adam Trumpour, Alternative Education, Travis Brown, Secondary Math, Gary Hrncharik, Sixth Grade Teacher, Katherine Raphael, K-12 Spanish.

 

Clark Construction Update - Mr. Ed Lorenz gave the board an update on the building project.

 

 

Reports:

Policy Committee - Kulaga - did not meet.


Finance Committee - Brenner - items on tonight's agenda.

 

Building and Grounds - Chamberlain - did not meet.

 

Personnel Committee - Ms. Shanabrook requested that the personnel committee submit ideas to her regarding the superintendent's evaluation. Ideas should be submitted via email.

 

Legislation - Ms. Shanabrook stated that the K-16 Coalition and the Citizens for Excellence in Education are trying to get 500,000 signatures on a petition for equity in school funding. There is also a bill in the House that would require school districts to start after Labor Day.

 

ISOA - Brenner - did not meet.


Superintendent - Dr. Skilling talked about creating an Honor Code for the district. This would cover K-12 students. Dr. Skilling mentioned that 80% of our coaches are also district employees. The district is working with the village in regards to the crossing guard situation.

 

 

Communications and Petitions:

None


Action Items:

Ms. Brenner moved, Ms. Chamberlain seconded a motion to certify the 2005-06 general fund, sinking fund, and debt retirement fund tax levy as presented. Motion passed 7-0.

 

Ms. Shanabrook moved, Ms. Guidroz seconded a motion to approve the hiring of Katherine Raphael to fill the position of K-12 Spanish teacher. Motion passed 7-0.

 

Ms. Guidroz moved, Mr. Kulaga seconded a motion to approve the hiring of Travis Brown to fill the position of secondary math teacher. Motion passed 7-0.

 

Mr. Kulaga moved, Ms. Shanabrook seconded a motion to appoint Kristine Brenner as a delegate and Teri Chamberlain as the alternate to the MASB Fall Delegate Assembly. Motion passed 7-0.

 

Ms. Chamberlain moved, Ms. Shanabrook seconded a motion to lay off the kitchen staff effective August 29 th , 2005 . Motion passed 7-0.

Work session scheduled for Monday, August 22 nd at 6:30 p.m. in the secondary library.

 

Adjournment

Ms. Brenner moved, Ms. Shanabrook seconded a motion to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 9:17 p.m.
