Personnel Committee – Didn’t meet
Legislation – Ms. Westbrook discussed classes offered by MASB. Issues from the Governors Office include: Merging of small school districts, MEAP transition to new test, financial status still up in the air, looking at increasing drop-out age to 18. President Bush would like to increase high school testing nationwide and increase Pell Grants. School elections – 90% of districts will hold elections in May. One in five districts didn’t make AYP.
ISOA – Ms. Brenner was absent.
Student Representative – Becky DePue reported that the student council dedicated the benches in honor of Mrs. Suzanne Griffes.
Superintendent – New changes coming from the governor regarding core content graduation requirements. With the current curriculum changes being instituted by Mr. Friddle, we should be in good shape. In regards to the governor’s idea to consolidate small school districts, it normally does not happen as each town wants to keep its own school, logo, colors etc. Webberville has already done a good job of consolidating services in regards to purchasing, food service, bus maintenance services and special education services. Dr. Skilling mentioned that Ms. Kristine Brenner was recently recognized by MASB with a merit award. 2002 bond update – we are in good shape with $23,000 left over to complete various projects.
